Whilst testing a new circular hole punch, I remembered how effective cropping an image is, not just in Instagram but also in real life!
I bought the 45mm circular paper punch to create some round labels with my logo on, it was on sale at my local big box haberdashery store – the cost of the hole punch and a pack of blank white A4 label paper works out much cheaper than buying speciality circular printable labels.
Cropping an picture so that part of the image seems to be heading off the page adds to the dynamism of the picture, it makes the viewer wonder whats happening ‘off’ the canvas. This works for large and small pictures alike. Its a great way to add a bit of energy to the painting.
For a quick project using my new circular punch I drew some doodle daisies with watercolour washes on heavy watercolour paper, then carefully lined up the images to make sure a bit of dynamic cropping was occurring, and punched out some mini circular paintings , and arranged them on a blank card.
