Art-Along Tea for Two 28/05/2020

posted in: Online Classes

Hello all, here are the details for our online class this Thursday evening, 28th May.
This week we will be painting a deceptively simple still life, paying attention to shadows, highlights and creating the illusion of three dimensional objects.

I have created a simple line drawing for this week, so that we use our watercolour paints to fill in the details.

I recommend using a large round brush and a minimal colour palette. I used 4 colours, Yellow Ochre, Paynes Grey, Burnt Umber & Ultramarine Blue

  • Shadows and highlights – observation
  • Shape and form – observation
  • Brush control
  • Glazing techniques

Do check out my colour suggestions below – I change them every week to match the painting we are doing.

For our session you will need:
  • Your Tea Tray printout, ordinary copy paper is fine for this exercise. Make the print image fill your A4 landscape sheet of paper, so that yo can use large sweeping brushstrokes.
  • A spare piece of paper to try out your paint mixes on before applying colour to your painting.
  • Watercolour paints: a warm yellow, a blue, a dark brown, a grey.
  • A large round brush, size 8-12
  • 2 pots of clean water
  • Rag or kitchen roll (for wiping your brushes on)
Here are some of the watercolour paint name colours you may want to use.
